Simple Present Time: Third Person s
Add -s, -es, or -ies to the verb when the subject is in the third person (he, she, it).
Examples:
Travis reads a lot of history books.
Andrea dries the clothes outside.
Edward runs two miles a day.
Jim fixes his car when it breaks down.
She always talks to her mother on the phone.
Spelling rules:
1. Add -s to most verbs: talk-talks, eat-eats, see-sees, etc.
2. Add -es to verbs ending in ss, sh, ch, or x: pass-passes, wash-washes, fix-fixes, watch-watches, etc.
3. Add -s to verbs ending in a vowel + y: buy-buys, pay-pays, stay-stays, etc.
4. For verbs ending in a consonant +y drop the y and add -ies: try-tries, cry-cries, fly-flies, etc.
5. There are three irregular verbs: have-has, do-does, go-goes.
