Present Perfect Continuous
The present perfect continuous is formed with the auxiliaries have or has + been + the principle verb with ING. Examples:
I have been working here for ten years. He has been studying French since 1998. They haven’t been going to class lately.
The present perfect continuous expresses the duration of activities that began in the past and continue in the present. With some action verbs (live, study, work, etc.), either the present perfect or the present perfect continuous can be used with little or no change in meaning. Examples: I have worked here for 10 years. I have been working here for 10 years.
Melanie has worn glasses since she was twelve.
My aunt has lived in New York City for 20 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Jones have taught at Clinton High since 2001.
I have smoked for ten years.
Thomas has played soccer since he was eight years old.
Linda has studied all afternoon.
It has rained all day.
Jay has taken piano lessons for ten years.
Theresa and Marie have worked non-stop for twelve hours.
