Ex. 7-Using Past Continuous and Simple Past

Instructions. Type in the past continuous or simple past form of the verb in parenthesis.
Example:
I was walking (walk) in the park when I saw (see) John.

Explanation

1. The past continuous shows that an action was in progress at the moment another action occurred.

While I was waiting for the bus, it started to rain.

2. The simple past shows that an action occurred after another action.

After/When I got home from work, I ate dinner.
1. I (wash) the dishes while John (cut) the grass.

2. After he (finish) cutting the grass, he (take) a break and (drink) a glass of iced tea.

3. While he (take) a break, we (talk).

4. After we (talk) a while, we (decide) to go for a walk.

5. We (not,see) any other people when we (walk).

6. We (walk) for about an hour, and then we (go) back.

7. When we (get) back home, we (be) tired but we (feel) better.

8. After we (watch) the news, we (go) to bed.
