Ex. 3-Passive Voice: Modals

Instructions. Use the words in parenthesis to complete the passive sentences.
Example: (can + clean) Glass can be cleaned with vinegar and water.

1. Student: How long can books be checked out?
Librarian: (can + check out) Books for two weeks.

2. Student: I'd like to check out this dictionary.
Librarian: (cannot + take out) Reference books of the library.

3. Daughter: Mom, my sweater needs washing. Can I put it in with my jeans?
Mother: (has to + wash) Your sweater is wool and wool in cold water.

4. Mrs. Kramer: The air is so musty in here.
Mr. Kramer: (should + probably + replace) The furnace filter . I'll pick one up at Walmart tomorrow.

5. Fred: The apartment is kind of dirty. (should have + clean) It really better before you moved in.
Allan: I think I'll talk to the manager about that.
