Forming the Plural
1. Most nouns in English form the plural by adding -s.
Examples: book, books; car, cars; carrot, carrots
2. Nouns ending in -s, -sh, -ch, or –x form the plural by adding -es.
Examples: bus, buses; brush, brushes; watch, watches; box, boxes
3. Nouns ending in -y preceded by a consonant change the -y to -i and add -es.
Examples: pony, ponies; baby, babies;
Do not make this change when -y is preceded by a vowel.
Example: toy, toys
4. The following nouns have irregular plurals.
Examples: man, men; woman, women; child, children; foot, feet; tooth, teeth;
mouse, mice
