Subject + am/is/are + able to + base verb is used to show ability in present time. It has the same meaning as
can. (See

able to in past time.)
Examples:
Affirmative Sentences
Brad is able to see the board without glasses.
They’re able to translate the letter if you want.
Negative Sentences
I’m not able to help you right now because I’m busy with something else.
I’m sorry that we’re not able to come with you on the trip but we have to work.
Questions
Are you able to give me a ride? My car is in the shop.
