Count and Non-count Nouns

A and an are used before singular count nouns. A is used before words starting with a consonant sound (a banana) and an before words starting with a vowel sound (an orchid). Some is used before plural count nouns (some bananas, some orchids) and non-count nouns (some tea, some information).
